Tom Hicks is in financial doo doo apparently. Cuban would be great to buy the any amount of the Stars. He is a well recognized figure in the states, and could bring publicity to the game that it needs south of the border. I also heard the George Gillett misses owning a team, and is looking to get back into the game. How funny would it be if he bought the Stars from his good buddy (sarcasm) Hicks (for those who don’t know they shared ownership of Liverpool and had a nasty fallout).
BQ: Mountains, I live in Manitoba I’m tired of the flatness.
This is not the first time that Cuban has been rumoured to be buying an NHL team…….he and Dan Marino (both from Pittsburgh) were rumoured to be buying the Penguins when they were in dire straits.
………and that never came to fruition so I will believe it when I see it. Also……the NHL and the Board of Governers have to approve an owner…..and he might not pass the litmus test.
BQ- Can’t I have both? I have been to Cuba 6 times…….one time I stayed in a southern area called Manzanillo and it had a beautiful beach AND it was right beside the Sierra Maestra mountains (where Fidel Castro and Che Geuvara hid out during the revolution…we actually had lunch in an old guys “house” and he knew Fidel from back then). Vancouver is beautiful because you can play golf….or go to the beach and then drive up to the mountains and go skiing in the same day. Las Vegas is one of my favourite cities……and it has some mountainous areas and canyons……I attended a wedding in the Valley of Fire and everytime I go to Vegas, I go hiking in Red Rock canyon………..no beaches in Vegas though…….unless you count the homemade beach at the Mandalay Bay Casino…….complete with waves.
I can see Bettman fighting that notion in a New York second. He kicked the tires when the Pittsburgh situation became dire but Bettman largely ignored his inquiries (I believe he had put together a group that included Pittsburgh native Dan Marino). He is seen as the Balsillie of basketball and would appear to be far too outspoken for the tastes of the old NHL guard. Would it be good for hockey? A deep pocketed passionate man who has in the past said the NHL underestimates itself and does a poor job selling itself to the south….I cant see how this would be even remotely bad. But between his and Hicks serious fallout and the NHL not getting how to find good ownership groups (Bettman and Co. have missed badly on most of their newer ownership choices) as much as it makes sense it likely will find a way to not happen. For all his craziness he would be a huge asset to the NHL and would seem to have the marketing skill to improve the game at large….that makes it even less likely the current group of owners and Bettman would welcome him with open arms….fresh idea’s…those are for other sports!
BQ. Beach…too damn cold in the mountains, getting near retirement age so hoping that at least one of the Florida teams survive so I can still see hockey (cause I aint coming back to Michigan to watch a hockey game once that warmth gets on my body!).
I love it. Mark Cuban is a great rich owner who actually shows passion for his teams. Sometimes too much passion as shown with the mavs. I love that though. An owner who is not only throwing his money around so he has something to talk about at his yacht club. But a guy willing to sit with the fans as a real fan

As long as he pays the bills I won’t object.
