When it comes to celebrating birthdays, most people serve cake. At a wedding, you’ll often receive a glass of champagne to toast the happy couple. But when it’s just the guys, out on the town for a bachelor party, it’s time to break out the cigars.
If you’re in charge of planning this big night out, be sure to include a sampler box of cigars. This allows you to offer a variety of smokes that hopefully meet everyone’s tastes. Just as the guys probably won’t all drink the same beverage, neither will they all want the same smoke.
Cigars can be categorized as mild, medium or full-bodied. This is the way to describe the cigar’s strength and flavor, just as you would describe the body of a particular wine.
Mild cigars are light and, as such, have a lighter flavor. Medium cigars offer more flavor than a mild cigar, but they are not overpowering the way some full-bodied smokes can be. (And remember that the term “overpowering” is not necessarily a bad thing. What is overpowering to some smokers will be a rich smoke for others.)
Full-bodied cigars have the maximum flavor and strength.
You’ll also want to consider the size of the cigars you’re offering in your sampler. Cigars are measured by their length in inches and their diameter by the ring gauge. The ring gauge is based on 64ths of an inch. This means a 32 ring gauge is a half-inch in diameter, a 48 ring gauge is three-quarters of an inch, and so on.
Some of your choice of sizes include the petite cigar, which is about 4 ½ inches long with a 40 to 42 ring gauge. The Churchill (named for the famous cigar-smoking Sir Winston Churchill) is 7 inches long with a 48 gauge. A Robusto is a short Churchill, only 5 inches to 5 ½ inches in length with a 50 ring gauge. At the top is a Double Coronoa, which measures 7 ½ inches and a 52 gauge.
Another way to ensure a good selection of cigars is to look for tobaccos grown around the world. Today’s smoker can find handmade and handrolled cigars made with tobacco grown in Africa, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Jamaica and Dominican Republic. A good cigar will blend up to five tobaccos from fields around the globe in an effort to produce a world-class cigar.
Of course you can only judge a cigar by smoking it. And even then, your taste will differ from other smokers’. But if you want specific advice on your selections, go to the experts who offer cigar reviews based on the following five qualities:
Overall appearance. Is the color of the wrapper consistent? Is the shape uniform? Is the wrapper oily or does the leaf have a sheen?
Draw. This measures the ease or difficulty you’ll have drawing smoke through the cigar.
Burn rate. Not only does this judge the speed of the smoke, it also looks for an even burn. You do not want your fine cigars to go up in smoke before you have time to enjoy them.
Construction. The way a cigar is assembled can greatly affect the way it smokes. It should not be too loose or too tight. And the cigar should not come unwrapped while you’re smoking it.
Taste. A lot goes into judging the taste of a cigar. First there is the cigar’s actual taste: light, powerful, smooth, bitter, etc. But taste also takes into considering the point at which you experience the taste. Is it half way through the cigar? Or did you experience it throughout the smoke? Did the smoke start out pleasant, but turn bitter before you finished it?
Another way to assemble your sampler of cigars is to include several cigar makers. That way you can try the best of several different brands. The following list represents 11 cigars made by such cigar makers as Palsencia, Rocky Patel and others.

I just read an article by consumer reports correspondent Janice Liberman. She was doing a story on mattresses for consumers, specifically, how much you need to spend and the difference between high end and low end mattresses. Here is one of the things she said:
The difference in an dollar 800 dollar mattress and a dollar 2,000 one may not be that great, but salespeople will inundate you with facts about foam, coil count, and the quality of the mattress ticking. Who looks at your ticking anyway.
This is one of the grossest misrepresentations of the mattress industry I have ever seen.
Sure, a dollar 2000 mattress and an dollar 800 mattress do the same thing. They are a place to lay your head at night
Its the same with a Hyundai and a Corvette both get you from point A to point B, but one has much more benefits obviously.
I would ask her what type of car she drives. I wonder if she drives an economy car or a luxury car. She probably has something nicer than an economy car because if you can afford luxury you should treat yourself to it. Consumers should buy the nicest mattress they can afford and not short change themselves because sleep is important as well as back support.
Janice you are not doing consumers a service, you are doing a disservice by making an already difficult purchase more confusing.
So, I am going to do consumers a service by explaining the point you refused to inform the customers on.

Who looks at your under garments, seriously, why do people buy 100 pertest underwear or silk underwear, I do not know anything about womens lingerie but I know those items can get excessive too. What is the difference between buying a 100 pertest cotton shirt and polyester shirt. Or a super 180s wool suit and a polyester suit. Simple the polyester gets you HOT.
Mattresses that are made of mostly synthetic materials polyester rayon will make you sleep warmer too they do not breath as well as the higher quality ticking cotton and cashmeres. I read in a survey in sleep savvy magazine that this is one of the main concerns consumers have about their mattress is that it will keep them at a comfortable temperature.
Well I do not know anyone today who would buy a car without air conditioners and yeah it costs more and itll still get you from point A to point B but you will be more comfortable.

Ok, yes mattress salesmen can be a bit boring when they go into foam specs Ill give you that its not the most exciting conversation. Especially since you cant really see on the inside what youre buying. But when you stop and think about it aside from the ticking and the thin fiber underneath the ticking the foam is the most important part of the mattress the foam not only creates the fell, but it is the closest part of the mattress to your body for the next 10,15 years. You might want to get quality foam. No its not cheap. Yes it costs more not only because believe it or not millions scientists invest millions of dollars and years of research to design the right foam that feels good and lasts a long time
Which brings me to the next point Ms. Liberman did not address
I am going to introduce such an important term to you that you should write it down and bring it into the mattress store with you. The term comfort life.
Whats that Most mattresses that are dollar 800 feel great in the store, and yes dollar 800 will get you a decent mattress.
But like most high use durable goods each year it will feel a bit less new obviously.
Comfort life is the mattresses ability to maintain that new feel luxury mattresses do this better than the mid grade mattresses. Luxury mattresses have a stronger innerspring and more resilient foams that feel nice, like they do in the store for a much longer time.
Another reason why this article is just ridiculous is that it does not even address back support.

If consumers followed your advice we would all be getting cheap comfortable mattress that did not address the consumer needs. Youre biggest flaw is that you assume that all consumers shop just like you. Every consumer is unique and has unique needs. Some consumers needs mattresses that have a high motion separation index, some require mattresses with more support, some need edge support some are athletes, some are single, some are couples, some have allergies. And a good mattress expert will elicit and help appeal to these needs.
The point is our industry has something for every consumer whether dollar 500 dollars or dollar 5000 Some consumers have special needs and require special mattresses these sometimes cost a bit more and if you have ever had the experience of a great night sleep a really great nights sleep you know I am telling the truth.
I realize mattresses are not the most fun and glamorous purchase and are very complex and VERY subjective to your personal situation and even sometimes confusing so whether they are your mom, your best friend, or a NBC news reporter. It is rare to find an individual who is not actively part of this industry who really KNOWS what they are talking about. Make a decision based on your needs and your decision not what someone from television tells you to do.
