Well, cigarettes and cigars are different. It is a different cut of tobacco. A cigar lasts a long time, but it also has 1000% more tobacco in it.
If you smoke cigarettes, rolling your own is the best route. You have more control over the final product, and the tobacco is of higher quality. The worst hand-roll tobacco is better than the tobacco in the best commercially produced cigarette. It is also way cheaper.
If you pack the cigarette very tightly with tobacco, it will burn slower and cleaner. If you roll it loosely, it will burn faster but with harder hits. The type of paper you use also effects the draw. You can get a bag of handroll tobacco, and make several different types of cigarettes, without haveing to buy “lights, ultralights, mediums”, etc.
A hard packed hand-roll can last as long as three commercial cigarettes, and be lighter than any one of them…without a filter. A loose-packed hand-roll can last 1 minute, and be heavy as hell.
I prefer handrolls and pipes.
Never buy a pipe that’s under $ 35, unless it’s used. And use only briar or meerschaum.

Cigars are good, but the ones I like, I never have time to finish them.

Smoking cigars may be a great source of pleasure in your life, but the courteous smoker knows that not everyone enjoys the taste (or smell!) of a good Cuban.  With the fervor of anti-smoking campaigns still in full swing, the importance of enjoying a good stogie while not offending others cannot be stressed enough.  Simply remember that while you are smoking a cigar, it can be difficult to gauge the smell that others are experiencing.  And don’t forget that cigar smokes can leave a mighty strong residue on clothing, furniture, and even the walls!  In order to enjoy your stogie without a heavy conscience, learn to become a considerate and courteous cigar smoker.

A courteous cigar smoker will also be aware of their ashes.  If you must smoke outside your home, make certain to dispose of your ashes in a safe and appropriate container.  Don’t forget that ashes can easily blow away, especially in lower quality cigars.  Don’t litter with ashes, and be careful they don’t blow near anyone around you.
